The Saving Act of God

The name ‘Jesus’ means “Yahweh saves.” In the man of Nazareth, the salvation promised by the God of Abraham has arrived . The child carried by Mary was “ begotten of the Holy Spirit .” The angel instructed Joseph to name this child ‘Jesus’: “ Call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins .” The name announced to Joseph pointed to the saving act of God that was about to unfold in History.

The Hope of the Nations

The Good News of Jesus and his victory over death offers hope, life, and salvation and life to men and women of every nation . Jesus sent his disciples to announce his Lordship and Salvation “ to the ends of the Earth .” The promise of the Abrahamic Covenant to bless all nations through the Patriarch’s “ seed ” has come to fruition through the Nazarene. The covenant promises were never limited to the nation of Israel or the small territory of Palestine.

New Covenant and the Spirit

Image
The Gift of the Spirit is vital to the redemption of humanity and the New Covenant of God with His people . The New Testament connects the “ Promise of the Spirit ” to the “ Blessings of Abraham ,” the promise that God will bless the nations through the Great Patriarch. The Spirit is the gift believers receive “ through the hearing of faith .” It is one of the promises given to Abraham and finds its fulfillment in the “ New Covenant ” inaugurated by the Death and Resurrection of Jesus.

You are My Son

The Kings of the Earth conspired to unseat the Messiah, but God instead resurrected him and exalted him to the Messianic Throne – Psalm 2:1-6. The  Second Psalm  is a key passage applied to Jesus in the New Testament, especially in the  Book of Hebrews . When were its predictions fulfilled, and is the Messiah now reigning on David’s Throne, or is the world still waiting for his enthronement? What about the predicted “ revolt ” of the nations and the Kings of the Earth against the Son of God? -  (Psalm 2:1-6)?

After his resurrection, Jesus declared that “ all authority in heaven and on earth is given to me; therefore, go and make disciples of all nations !” Thus, he sent his disciples to announce his lordship and salvation to “ the ends of the Earth .” Christ’s  life-giving  message must be announced to all men and in every nation under heaven.

Seed of Abraham

Image
Jesus is the Seed of Abraham, the heir of the covenant promises, and receipt of the inheritance is based on how we respond to him . The Gospel of Matthew declares Jesus to be the “ son of Abraham .” The lowly Nazarene is the Messiah and King of Israel, the promised “ Seed ” of the Patriarch. Christ brings the covenant promises to fulfillment since he is the covenant heir, and our participation in the inheritance is based on the “ faith of Jesus ,” and consequently, our faith in him.
